SANTA BARBRA, Calif. —- Actor Randy Quaid and wife Evi in trouble once again, a judge in Santa Barbara issued a bench warrant for the couple after they failed to appear in court for their arraignment Monday.
The Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office said a $50,000 warrant has been issued for each of them.
The 60-year-old actor and his wife were arrested were in September after they were discovered living in a home illegally– a home they once owned.
The Quaids were charged with felony residential burglary and entering a noncommercial building without consent. Evi Quaid, 47, also faces a second misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest or obstructing a peace officer or EMT, according to Radar Online.
The Quaids testified that they still own the home and said they will prove it in court. The couple went on to say, the Santa Barbara police are “not real estate attorneys”. They also claim that the corporation owned by Randy Quaid still has a lien on the home in the county records.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter says Randy and Evi’s case will be called again on Oct. 26.
This is not the couple’s first brush with the law, last year Randy and Evi were arrested in Texas for allegedly defrauding an innkeeper, burglary and conspiracy in California, after the couple stiffed a Santa Barbara hotel for $10,000.
Once again the couple failed to appear in court, and a warrant was issued for the actor and his wife. Evi later pled no contest to a misdemeanor count of defrauding an innkeeper and charges against Randy were dropped.
Randy Quaid is best-known for supporting roles in films such as “Independence Day” and” National Lampoon’s Vacation.”He is the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid.
