I don’t know about you, but I was lucky if I got a five-spot whenever the stars aligned and I got on the honor roll in high school.
For other kids the incentive to excel is obviously a bit sweeter.
Ok. A whole lot sweeter.
Take Diddy’s 17-year old son Justin who apparently received his second, yes, second, Mercedes Maybach for becoming an honors student.
“Justin has turned himself around and is now an honors student, which he wasn’t before, so I wanted to treat him,” Diddy said concerning his purchase of the limo version of the luxury vehicle valued at $390,000. “It’s a collector’s car so maybe he will use it for special occasions like on a first date, but like all my kids, he prefers the simpler things than the expensive things. Simple tastes.”
If a collector’s edition Maybach limo is considered ‘simpler things,’ than I’d love to see what he considers to be a luxury item.
Justin got his first Maybach, worth over $300,000, for his 16th birthday. Even if you don’t want to admit you’ve seen the show, many of you probably remember the moment Justin got his first car when it was shown on MTV’s ‘My Super Sweet 16.’ Diddy was actually criticized for giving his son such an expensive gift, which he later claimed was due to racial, rather than financial reasons.
“The whole thing about giving a Maybach to my son, that’s really like a racist question,” Diddy claimed during an interview. “You don’t ask white people what they buy their kids,” Diddy continued. “And they buy ’em Porsches and convertible Bentleys, and it ain’t no question. It’s really a racist question and put things back in perspective with money and the way that people still look at you. And I’m not saying that consciously he’s a racist. But he probably don’t even realize that he would not ask Steve Jobs that. He would be like Steve Jobs has that money, and that’s the gift his kid is supposed to get.”
Personally, I think any gift for a 16 year old that has a six-digit value is totally absurd no matter who you are and what you make.
But either way, I’m rootin’ for the kid to graduate high school with honors because I’m thinking Diddy will give him the entire Maybach showroom for that achievement.Tags: car, Diddy, Maybach, Sean Combs, son
