NEW YORK, N.Y. – The official YouTube channel for children’s television series “Sesame Street” was debased this weekend after an unknown person hacked in the child-friendly page and filled it with pornographic material.

The Sesame Street channel is back online Monday, after YouTube officials shut it down, “due to repeated or severe violations to our community guidelines,” according to a message posted on the channel’s home page Sunday.

YouTube representatives declined to comment on the Sesame Street incident but said the removal of content took about 20 minutes and aligns with the company’s user guidelines.

“YouTube’s Community Guidelines prohibit graphic content,” a YouTube spokesperson said. “As always, we remove inappropriate material, as soon as we are made aware of it.”

The details regarding who was behind the hacking incident are currently under investigation. Before the entire Sesame Street channel was removed, its profile had been modified to include the following message:

WHO DOESN’T LOVE PORN KIDS? RIGHT! EVERYONE LOVES IT! IM MREDXWX AND MY PARTNER MRSUICIDER91 ARE HERE TO BRING YOU MANY NICE CONTENT! PLEASE DON’T LET SESAME STREET TO GET THIS ACCOUNT BACK KIDS 🙁 PLEASE…LET ME AND MRSUICIDER91 HAVE IT AND WE GONNA MAKE ALL THE AMERICA HAPPY!

YouTube user “MrEdwx,” the individual, who allegedly penned the note, denied involvement in the attack Monday saying,

“I did not hack Sesame Street. I am an honest YouTuber,” the user, identified as “MrEdxwx,'” posted on his account. “I work hard to make quality game play videos, and most important I respect the community guidelines.”

YouTube, owned by Google, is by far the most popular video site on the Internet. The site is localized in 25 countries across 43 different languages. The site enjoys over 3 billion video views daily.
