Well kids, they’ve done it. With their recent collaborative album, Watch The Throne, Jay-Z and Kanye west have managed to break iTunes. Okay, maybe not quite that, but they did break the sales record for the musical platform.
With the surprising feat of the project not leaking whatsoever prior to its drop, the album was then released to iTunes a full week ahead of its physical release. The album surpassed Coldplay’s recent mark set with Viva La Vida (2008) as it sold over 290,000 copies in its first week, nearly doubling Coldplay’s prior record. All in a hard day’s (week’s) work, right?
Also recently released, the album debuted at number atop the Billboard charts, giving Kanye West his fifth number one album and Jay-Z his twelfth. Yeah — those dudes are pretty good. The only artist/group with more number one gos than Hov is none other than the Beatles, which feasibly he could still catch.
The album has been so well-received worldwide that is sure to hit the million copy sales mark fairly soon. Rumor has it that it debuted at number one in roughly forty different counties. Talk about star power.
Congratulations, fellas. I’m sure this is a feeling that you’re all too accumulated to.Tags: iTunes, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Watch the Throne
