While he wasn’t allowed to perform for any of the BET Awards Show cyphers this year (discrimination against Caucasians in hip-hop, of course), the phenom, Justin Bieber, may not have been that out of place after all. He has given a go at rapping a few times prior to, most of which was neither here nor there. But as he recently made a trip to Big Boy’s Neighborhood, the Biebs has people thinking quite the opposite as of now.
Rhyming no doubt takes a fair amount of practice, seasoning, and overall skill, but free-styling is a completely different animal of its own. Most rappers don’t even truly “freestyle” any more, as the majority of the time, they have pre-written rhymes stashed on their cell phones — cheap, right?
And whether that is the case here or not with this Bieber spitfire, the kid killed it, regardless. The teenage sensation had Big boy cue up Jay-Z and Kanye West’s recent hit, “Otis,” as he went bar for bar, rhyme after rhyme, of hot, hot heat.
His rhymes were pretty good, but his flow was impeccable. And it was really impressive that Big Boy wanted to cut him off, but Bieber evidently had much more left in the tank.
So without further adieu, Justin Bieber freestyles over “Otis,” below. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t get too carried away and follows up this Christmas album with a rapping project. We see you, young fella.
