Everyone’s favorite love to hate target Kanye West has experienced quite the bounce back year in 2010. After self mutilating his already tarnished, I don’t give a… attitude and reputation via “Taylorgate” (MTV VMA’s 2009), it was widely speculated that it would be a long period of time before the all around musical guru resurfaced, much less owned the entertainment industry yet again. Albeit he did retreat to the confines of dreary ole Hawaii for several months, it wasn’t for lack of courage to rear his head back in the real world. He was merely slaving away, in preparation of his then forthcoming masterpiece My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
So he we are now – after not only a complete 180 attitudinal adjustment, a day to day wardrobe transformation, which has resulted in its own movement (Rosewood), a featured short film which he himself created and directed, and a record that is still sitting pretty atop the Billboard charts, Kanye West is back and convincingly more influential than ever. And notice, he did most all of this in roughly half of a year, yet looky here, he’s MTV New’s 2010 Man of the Year. A bit impressive, huh?
Sure there are still thousands (if not more) of onlookers who continue to loathe the arrogantly egotistical genius and all that he stands for, but one thing cannot be denied. And that is his influence on pop culture and the music industry as a whole. The man has single handedly spawned an entirely new musical genre that has yet to be categorized, but rest assured, years from now it will have sparked an audio movement.
Love him or hate him, Kanye keeps on winning. So congrats on his year end achievement. “Let’s have a toast to the douchebags.”Tags: Kanye West, Las Vegas, Miami, MTV, my beautiful dark twisted fantasy
