Dwayne Carter, more commonly referred to as rapper, Lil Wayne, set out to flex his social media muscles just days ago via his Facebook fan page. Mere hours after Oreo’s link broke the Guinness World Record for most “Likes” on a post in a 24 hour period, Weezy F. Baby made sure that no inanimate object would hold the crown, not for long anyway.
What was the clever social marketing tactic you might ask? Well, this is what the post said, “‘Like’ this post to join Oreo fans around the world in setting a Guinness World Record for most “Likes” to a post in 24 hours. Oreo is the world’s favorite cookie, and with your help, it will be the most ‘Liked’.” A scheme that resulted in 114,619 “likes.” Not too shabby, huh?
Roughly five hours after Oreo pleaded with their fans to aid in the setting of a world record, Lil Wayne’s camp set out with the same goal in mind. With virtually the same “genius” platform, his fan page post read with the same type message, disclosing to his fan faithful of the attempt in breaking a Guinness World Record. The result of the hit musician’s plea—significantly more clicks with 588,243. Can you tell where our youth’s love and devotion has shifted to these days?
When questioned on the odd attempt from Lil Wayne and company, his digital manager Mazy Kazerooni had this to say: “I want people to think ‘Bieber, Gaga and Lil Wayne.’ The traffic we do is ridiculous and no one really knows.” He then went on to speak as to how they really wanted to flex their social media muscles in showing just how popular and dedicated Wayne’s fans are.
Well the stunt worked as the Guinness World Record goes to Lil Wayne. For how long? Who knows. But I’m sure the Young Money headliner will set this accomplishment atop his mantle alongside his Grammy recognitions.Tags: Guinness World Record, lil wayne, Oreo, Weird News
