Man Reports Craigslist Date As Burglar When Girlfriend Arrives Early

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado ~ (Colorado Springs Gazette/ NBC DFW) ~ A man reported his Craigslist date as a burglar when his girlfriend arrived home earlier than expected.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, 24-year-old Keith Gaylor called 911 at around 3:00am on Wednesday, October 26th, and soon had five Colorado Springs police officers rushing to the scene. Allegedly, Gaylor’s initial report was that he and his girlfriend were inside his home as a woman with a gun was waiting outside for them. However, upon further investigation police discovered that Gaylor had concocted the story to convince the unidentified girlfriend he wasn’t cheating on her.

Colorado Springs Police said Gaylor met the unidentified woman on Craigslist and arranged for a get-together in the wee hours of the morning. But the monkey wrench flew into the covert meeting when the real girlfriend showed up minutes before the tryst was scheduled to happen. In an attempt to cover his tracks, Gaylor called 911 dispatchers and said an armed burglar was trying to knock down the door. At first, police detained the Craigslist woman, but later released her as Gaylor’s story unraveled. Police spokeswoman Barbara Miller told the Colorado Springs Gazette, “when they started listening to the story, they said there was more to the story than meets the eye.” Gaylor was given a summons to appear in court on a charge of making a false report to the police.
