LYNNWOOD, Washington (The Herald) ~ A man who was convinced that he was sharing a room with Satan set his blankets on fire in a local hotel.
A police affidavit from Snohomish County Superior Court states that a 52-year-old unidentified man, from the town of Redmond, was staying at the Days Inn on 196th Street SW for about a month. On March 11th, at around 8:30 in the morning, fire crews were called to the hotel in response to smoke pouring out of the second floor room, which the man was renting. Officials said the sprinkler system contained the fire to the single room, but six other rooms were damaged in all, along with some guest property. Further investigation revealed the fire started in four different places, including the blankets.
The man told police that he set the room ablaze because Satan was in there, according to the affidavit. He reportedly said he wanted to protect “the good people” by starting the small inferno. Hotel officials also told police the man repeatedly called employees the “anti-Christ” as well as the “spawns of Satan”. Management had asked the man to move out on the day the fire occurred, and now he’s being held at Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree arson. Police who searched his room after the fire found two bottles of lighter fluid. No injuries were reported and the case is still under investigation by the Lynnwood Police Department.Tags: Fire, hotel, room, satan, Washington
