Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, two of the most exciting boxers in the world, will meet November 14, 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Top Rank’s Bob Arum told ESPN.com “It’s done, while I was away I reached a verbal agreement with each side. Pacquiao committed to the fight this weekend and Cotto the week before… I was on the phone all the time trying to get this done.”
The two fighters have agreed to fight at a catch weight of 145 pounds which means the contest is a non-title bout. Cotto is currently Welterweight Champion at 147 pounds after a bloody title defense against Joshua Clottey on June 13, while Pacquiao is the current Junior Welterweight Champion at 140 pounds after demolishing Ricky Hatton on May 2 of this year at the MGM Grand.
Both men are aggressive fighters and everyone expects this to be an all out brawl. Arum expressed his anticipation, “I’m really excited because it’s a real fight. These are two real warriors, whichever way this fight goes, I think it’s going to be a classic because of the way these guys fight. There where will be a lot of engagement. They’re great fighters. Cotto and Pacquiao are gutty guys. If you want blood and action and excitement, this is the fight.”
Tickets for the fight will go on sale sometime in late August followed by promotional tours in Los Angeles on September 9, New York on September 10 and San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 12, which coincidentally is where Miguel Cotto is from. No word on a whether there will be a trip to the Phillipines where Manny Pacquiao is a national hero.Tags: Bob Arum Boxing Promoter, Boxing, Manny Pacquiao, MGM Grand Las Vegas, Miguel Cotto
