Punk group RISE AGAINST rocked The Joint Theater Monday at Hard Rock Las Vegas casino. Their opening act was RANCID who have been playing to punk fans for more than a decade.

Formed 10 years ago, RISE AGAINST is an American punk rock band from Chi Town. The group’s band members are Zach Blair (guitar), Tim McIlrath (vocals, guitar), Brandon Barnes (drums), and Joe Principe (bass guitar). Did you know that all but Barnes are vegetarians?

This year Universal Music Group, Geffen record label, has signed the band. RISE Against has released one DVD, two EPs and five studio albums.

Previously the group released two studio albums in the first five years of its existence from the independent record label Fat Wreck Chords.

The band gained mainstream popularity with its first two releases on Geffen, Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004) and The Sufferer and the Witness (2006). Several top-charting singles from those albums included “The Good Left Undone,” “Prayer of the Refugee” and “Swing Life Away.”

Gained spot number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 is their most recent studio album, Appeal to Reason, released October 7, 2008. Top singles included , “Savior,” “Audience of One” and “Re-Education (Through Labor).”
