The Los Angeles Clippers’ rookie sensation, Blake Griffin has been experiencing quite the celebrated year thus far in his freshman campaign. The “Rim Reaper,” as some like to call him, has had little to no problem (yet) amidst the normally difficult transition from the college game to the pros. Going from college basketball’s national player of the year doesn’t always translate into rookie superstar, but in Griffin’s case, that is an undisputed affirmative.
His game, highlighted by an array of monstrous throw downs and rim rockers, the kid was a lock to participate in this year’s NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest—and participate he did. That’s not all, however. “Quake Griffin” was also chosen to participate in the Rookies vs. Sophomores game, which his first year squad won on Friday night, as well as a more illustrious accomplishment in being chosen to the Western Conference All-Star team, in which the game will be held in just under a few hours—a feat that very few rookies can say they’ve experienced.
With two nights of the NBA’s All-Star weekend already in the books, it’s fair to say that Griffin is having one heck of a weekend. From the play of the game (alley-oop jam from rookie teammate John Wall) during Friday night’s Rookies vs. Sophomores showdown, to leaping over a car in last night’s dunk contest (yeah, that won it)—the kid has already seen a level of celebrated success amongst his peers that most athletes never see in an entire career.
So just in case you all missed it, below you will find two of the more spectacular plays atop the hardwood, that you will ever see, in Griffin’s alley-oop throw down via Friday night and last night’s Slam Dunk Contest winning attempt—the leap and jam over a Kia! And if that’s not enough to quench your appetite, tune in to tonight’s East vs. West NBA All-Star game, live from Los Angeles at 8pm EST. Happy hooping, folks.
