Recently, my friend from San Francisco, a former Ren faire junkie came into town, so it was only fitting that we head over to the Excalibur for the “TOURNAMENT OF KINGS.” Yes, you heard me…we went and sat in an arena with total strangers, ate with our hands, watched jousting and had a great time!
First, let me explain. You won’t have fun unless you’re willing to make a fool of yourself and participate. The people around us that were too cool to scream “Hazzah”, toast, and cheer for their king were pussies! If you’re not a natural “extrovert” like me, I suggest a couple of cocktails to loosen you up.
The premise is that King Arthur (who looks like the real version of the “Burger King” king) was getting together with his son, Prince Christopher and the Knights of the Round Table for some general sword play and jousting fun (just like one of your normal family gatherings).
Meanwhile, the “Bad Guy” who looked eerily like Peter Criss from “Kiss” and his son, played by Marilyn Manson (at least I thought it was Marilyn Manson) decided they want to destroy the King and his knights.
I won’t tell you the whole ending, but Peter and Marilyn get their asses kicked.
We laughed and cheered. There were very skilled acrobats, the horsemanship was good, the fighting fun and there was lots of pyrotechnics….I love explosions! But I do recommend a couple of stiff drinks!
