Just days after coming off news reports that Hugh Grant might be replacing Charlie Sheen on the hit sitcom, “Two and a Half Men,” CBS and Warner Brothers confirmed today that no other than Ashton Kutcher will be the official new character proxy. What happened? I thought Grant would be a fine choice being he’s a well known actor with a proven affinity for drugs and hookers. Hmm.. sound too familiar? Duh… Winning!
“I can’t wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers’ homes,” Kutcher said in a statement released to ‘Access Hollywood’ by CBS. Kutcher continued, “I can’t replace Charlie Sheen but I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”
So what does Charlie think about this new development? He told TMZ, “Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer … Oh wait, so am I!!” Charlie – now known for his public violent disdain for show creator, executive producer, and personal nemesis Chuck Lorre – said, “Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there.” …then continued with a ratings jab saying, “Enjoy the show America. Enjoy seeing a 2.0 in the demo every Monday, WB.”
So, let’s talk money… which was the almighty “green” point of contention between Charlie and the network. According to the Wall Street Journal, Kutcher will be paid around $1 million per episode, however, Hollywood Reporter claims “CBS, Warner Bros. and Kutcher’s reps at CAA have so far not commented.”
Season 9 is slated to begin in the fall on CBS as Kutcher joins “Men” series regulars, Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones, Holland Taylor, Marin Hinkle and Conchata Ferrell.
Am I the only one that read this news and had a gut feeling I was being punk’d?
