On Thursday, April 22nd, I had the one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get behind the scenes of an adult film set here in Las Vegas and made this short video to share my experience with you. During my time on set, I learned that there are many downsides to working on a porn set (believe it or not) and it’s not all just fun and games. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to meet and interview Adult Film Star Nikki Benz, who was gracious enough to chat with me about some of her thoughts on working in Las Vegas.
Video Contains Adult Content / Potentially Offensive Material
My buddy and I arrived on set around 1:15pm. It was staged inside a large white building that looked no different than any of the other office buildings that surrounded it. Thick silver tints covered the windows to the front of the building, so no one could see inside.
There was no clearance needed to enter the building, other than a locked front door. Once inside, I was amazed at how large, quiet and dark the building was. Most of the corridor lights were off. Silence filled the building as there was filming going on in certain locations. There were many rooms, most empty and some setup for different scenes – the doctor’s office, the bedroom or the locker room.
The Downside to the Porn Industry:
In speaking with the director, I learned that working in the film industry isn’t all fun and games or “blowjobs and lollipops,” as he explained it. This particular company has about 280 people working in the office on a daily basis (in a remote location), approximately 60 script writers, editors, project managers to book flights and make arrangements, stage hands, actors and actresses and more. The day started for some as early as 6:30am to setup while it didn’t end until about 6:00pm. Their hours were described as being “very similar to 9-5 office hours for most” which I could definitely understand after the end of my day with them.
There are other downsides to the adult film industry that you may not have thought of. As you can imagine, there are often mistakes that can happen while dealing with sex, people and bodily fluids, especially when shooting “hardcore” which can include things like anal sex. Although this might sound graphic to you in nature, please realize some of these terminologies and the things I discuss in this blog post are daily occurrences in the world of the Adult Film Industry. When I asked the director to share some of the bad sides to position, his answers were so honest yet graphic that unfortunately I had to edit them out of the video. Use your imagination and I bet you can figure it out!
I was more than impressed with the talent of the actors in which I had the opportunity to meet. From what I saw, the sex scenes happened in two parts. The first part was acting out the scene for still photos. These actors had to actually act their parts and have sex just to shoot still photos. The photographer told me they shoot anywhere from 900-1200 photos per scene, which as you can imagine, is a tremendous amount of pictures. On cue, as the director yelled “action” both actors had to be ready to perform in front of a room filled with people. And we all know, when it comes to sex, being “ready” requires a bit more than just having your mind right.
After the photo shoot was done, they took a 30 minute break. Immediately after, it was time to actually video tape the sex scene. This meant that after hanging out in the make-up room and ensuing in small talk, the actors had to get back into character and get ready to have sex, again! I can imagine, this wouldn’t be an easy thing to do for the average man (or woman), but these actors were once again, ready to go on cue.
One thing that threw me off was how the director would yell “cut” in the middle of a scene. Understandable for most productions, but imagine having to stop in the middle of sex to take direction from a bystander. In this case, it was all part of a day’s work!
After the director decided that the set was perfect, the acting was just the way he wanted and he was convinced that he had the footage that he needed, the video and photos would be handed to the editors for post production. During this process, the video and pictures were edited and prepared to be put on their online membership website, Brazzers.com. It was explained to me that it usually takes about a month to reach the net, although some videos with big name stars in it may be rushed and found online within a week or so of shooting.
Ms. Nikki Benz:
I had the opportunity to meet and interview Nikki Benz, one of the leaders in the industry. I wanted to ask her a few questions about adult film, but also wanted to get her thoughts and opinions on our city here in Las Vegas. She mentioned that she does a lot of paid appearances here in Las Vegas, but on her free time enjoys TAO Nightclub and hopes to visit HAZE at City Center one day. Our large plethora of amazing restaurants made it difficult for her to single one out that she could call her favorite, but she said “anywhere with Steak or Sushi” would work – I agree. Based out of Los Angeles, Nikki loves Las Vegas for all of the entertainment that it has to offer.
Brazzers.com is one of the top online adult entertainment websites on the web. Their membership site as well as their DVD sales rake in millions of dollars annually, making Brazzers one of the leaders of the industry.
Launched in early 2005, Brazzers website is managed from Canada, while a majority of there scenes are shot in Los Angeles, Miami or right here in Las Vegas, Nevada. In just five years since its launch, Brazzers.com has climbed the ranks as one of the top 500 most-viewed websites on the Ineternet.
I can’t thank the cast and crew and the representative of Brazzers.com that gave me the opportunity to hang out on set and experience something that most men only dream of. I hope you found this video informative and educational as well as entertaining. For those of you who enjoy adult film, please check them out on the web at www.brazzers.com (18+ only).
